Helping Kids Make Sense of Big Feelings
Evidence-based counseling for children, including school and daycare-based sessions in the Kansas City metro area.
15+ Years of Specialized Experience
With over 15 years of experience across school systems, nonprofits, and private practice, I've developed specialized expertise in navigating the unique challenges children face.
Whether collaborating with teachers or supporting families with a lot on their plate, I'm dedicated to evidence-based care that builds resilience and long-term emotional health.
Therapy Comes to Your Child
Your schedule is already stretched. Let me bring therapy to your child so you don't have to rearrange yours.
Between school holidays, in-service days, and PTO that's hard to come by, squeezing in a weekly therapy appointment is one more thing parents shouldn't have to worry about. I believe counseling should come to the child, not the other way around. I meet with your child at school or daycare, in the familiar environment where they already feel comfortable. Parent consultations can be scheduled by phone or via a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform at a time that works for you.
Play Therapy
As a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, I use an evidence-based approach that meets your child exactly where they are.
Play therapy allows children to process “big feelings” through their most natural language: play. Using toys, art, and therapeutic play, I help children explore their emotions, build coping skills, and navigate challenges in a safe and familiar environment. Meeting them at school or daycare lets me observe them with their peers and collaborate directly with their teachers, providing the most accurate and effective support for your child’s needs.
Play therapy is particularly effective for children experiencing:
- Anxiety and worry
- Behavioral concerns at home or school
- Grief and loss
- Family transitions
- Trauma and adverse experiences
- Social and emotional difficulties
Individual Therapy
For children who are ready to use words and conversation as the primary vehicle for growth, individual therapy offers a more verbal, structured approach. Sessions are tailored to the child's developmental level and build self-awareness, emotional vocabulary, and practical coping skills.
Individual therapy gives children the tools to understand their thoughts and feelings, and to navigate difficult situations with greater confidence and resilience.
Our Process
Parent Consultation
We start with a parent consultation to understand your child's history, current challenges, and what you're hoping therapy will accomplish. Your insight is invaluable to the process.
Tailored Approach
Based on your child's age, temperament, and presenting concerns, we'll determine whether play therapy, individual therapy, or a blend of both will be most effective.
Ongoing Collaboration
Parents are kept involved throughout the process. Regular check-ins ensure you understand your child's progress and feel equipped to support their growth at home.
